the day of the wall
13′ – 2017 – ITALY
synopsis
“Three slender things that best support the world: the slender stream of milk from the cow’s dug into the pail; the slender blade of green corn upon the ground; the slender thread over the hand of a skilled woman”. The Triads of Ireland (9th century).
In a small village in the heart of Sicily, the feast of the Saint represents the opportunity to offer the fruits of the earth and revive, in the reiteration of atavistic gestures, a rite of ancient origins which combines religious myths with tribal customs.

The day of the wall is the second short film of Sicily Folk Doc, a project of a series of short documentaries devoted to Sicilian popular feasts. Protagonist of these films is the community that spends several months of preparatory work in these events, finding in them the full expression of their collective identity.
The Day of the Wall is set in the town of Capizzi where the inhabitants celebrate every year Saint Jack. The documentary won the “Prix de la Création” in the last edition of Traces de Vies 2017, historical festival based in Clermont Ferrand (France), won the first prize in Premio Cerere 2017 (devoted to Antonino Buttitta, Sicilian expert of popular traditions) and a Special Mention in Roma Cinema Doc 2017.
